The US invented the Internet.
In the 1990’s the US leveraged it to spawn an unprecedented
global economic boom. Yet by 2004 the US itself sank to 16 th place
in per capita broadband Internet penetration.
To help reverse this trend and in support of efforts to create
national and state level broadband strategies, the Community Telestructure
Initiative has been launched to foster a complementary strategy
development process at the local community level.
Each community
is a distinct market for broadband services. Each has its own
unique set of resources, limitations and priorities thus requiring
its own strategy for infrastructure deployment.
The CTI Florida Broadband Roundtable is being convened to:
- explore related technology, policy and economic issues at the
local community level
- share knowledge of the wide range of local circumstances and
projects in the state
- develop actions that encourage more Florida communities to take
responsibility for stimulating local infrastructure buildout.
